Title:

I wanna see peace and love in your eyes

i want to see peace in my people’s eyes
to just look in the eyes of a brother or sister or elder
and know there’s love
that we’re more willing to uplift each other instead of be a stranger
that i would rather build myself up instead of pull you down
so we can be equals
i’ve had enough mental rainy days
where we let chains of oppression reign
to sustain the divisions of diabolic masterminds
fools dreaming of rome to build globalistic empires
so that a few can rule the masses of the world
when we were all born to be free
i’m seeking dewdrops of peace
that never cease cause we believe
and act accordingly to truly be
a community of unified people
living the lessons of our wise ancestors
so we can collectively rise

i never thought that crackpipes and suv’s and obsessions with weed would replace
bloody whips and shackles with chains
that paper prosperity in elevators with glass ceilings would replace
nooses hanging strange fruit
-- that’s why i don’t wear ties
i never thought that addictions to self-medicated suffering would replace
backs scarred with permanent scabs caused by floggings
that fascinations with material wealth sauteed with player mentalities would replace
our spiritual virtues and homeland culture
that ideals for middle class and aristocrat comfort would replace
communal aspirations for complete liberation
instead we deliberate in public intellectual debates of if it’s safe
to ethically contemplate one’s individual comfort
while ignoring the collective suffering that still stifles a whole diaspora (of people)
yo, find the logic in this:
a brother at harvard is complaining that the gasoline prices are too high
while a mother in angola has to walk ten miles for a cup of clean drinkable water
a sister on the 6 train complains that her cell phone cuts off when the train goes in the tunnel
while yesterday 12 south african miners were buried alive
digging for diamonds to be sold in eurpoean markets
two brothers at a bar in cali are complaining that the sex doesn’t feel as good with condoms
while in nigeria a young orphan lies in a bed reminiscing of her dead parents
as a virus redefines her lifespan to a matter of single digit years
find the logic in these obscure perplexities
or maybe the logic is to stop trying to make logic out of things that don’t make sense
to accept that, yes:
in math class, two plus two will always equal four
but in the domain of modern human affairs and world power:
two plus two equals oppression, injustice, greed, and domination
and forgotten history, present day atrocities ignored or justified
or revised by the amnesia of individualism
and your daily dose of mainstream nightly news
where all the suffering in this world is remixed and edited to fit nicely in your world view
such that it need not concern you
but the reality is:
you don’t have to go to africa to see the dichotomy of american comfort and poverty
you can sleep in any bed in new york city and be at most only miles away
from many homeless families sleeping on a hard floor, including the babies

these things cloud my mind, you see
with visions of unborn children i’m not sure i want to bring in this crazy world
got me playing mental hopscotch on the border of insanity and moral fortitude
in a world that prefers to celebrate immorality
then use immoral consequences to drive the rest of the world insane
like thousands of people dying because of a feud between two aristocrats
acting as governmental leaders
like hundreds of thousands losing life savings because one ceo wanted a bigger piece
of wealthy pie with two scoops of corruption on the side
like millions of people dying of treatable diseases because health care is treated like a luxury
like people starving to death in poor countries while rich countries burn excess food
and developing countries are regulated to remain in debts that will take centuries to repay
for the sake of maintaining a healthy world economy
these things bother me
cause it’s all connected
from the overpriced cup of gourmet coffee you drink to the country peasants in foreign countries
who picked those beans for less than a penny an hour
from the hamburger you eat to the indigenous tribe who just got removed from their land
cause the government sold it to a beef company who wants to graze cattle
from the bling-bling ice in your wedding ring to the diamond miners who get buried alive
on a regular basis because profits are more valuable than lost workers’ lives
from your absence of conscious action in a world you can change but instead disengage
to imitate fantasies of an american dream
-- are you really that foolish?
or maybe i’m the fool for not falling for such idiocy
for expecting more of my people

for wanting to look in your eyes and see peace and love
not the blank stare of a brainwashed generation enslaved to modern tricks ‘n treats
to see peace cause you’re committed to living and manifesting peace
not only in your soul but in the world we’re supposed to be sharing
and to see love in your eyes because you truly care
that’s it more than just politics and anger and wants for revenge or twisted selfishness
that it’s about love: a perfect foundation for justice and equality
where we honor life cause life has honored us
with the opportunity to love
and build a world where we share love peacefully

i wanna look in your eyes and see peace and love,
my people
